Shopgoodwill is a horrible website
They have the largest selection of the most random stuff on sale for auction and as an avid online window shopper this is the worst site to be on.
There were so many times I find the rarest things either from a collection or a memory from my childhood that I felt tempted to buy EVERYTHING I see.
I have bought a Kodak instant camera that is no longer supported - I bought it because I wanted a vintage camera that was unique except that it doesn’t work because they no longer produce the film.
(if i wanted to buy an expired pack, chances are the photos will come out blank)
As the only bidder, I thought man what a steal! Why isn’t anyone else buying this? Well let me tell you.
No focus adjuster, just a slider with distance guides so hope you know how far 3 feet is - a hole in the body which no idea if there’ll be light leaks.
Still shot it untested.
I also bought an antique 8mm film camera and binoculars that I had no intention of using EVER.
One thing that I did end up using was a long framed painting of Patagonia landscape.
That’s it.
Not really.
Minolta Autopak 460Tx for $12.
Admittedly I had no idea what I was doing and they came out like alright.
Pull focus, where? All you had was a slider with distance so you pretty much had to guess.
Surprisingly this came with a telephoto lens that you can switch back and forth - pretty neat I might say plus it changes the viewfinder as well.
Much like a Polaroid, when in doubt use flash.
I’m not saying this is a bad camera just a huge learning curve.
The portability and mechanics is superb for a battery-less operated camera (besides the flash requiring a single AA) it had a lot of forethought into its engineering.
The flash bar pops out when you want to use it - the rangefinder lights up so you can still see in the dark. You can even hear the flash charging up so you’ll know when it’s ready to go. Canceling the flash trigger is even easier - you just pop it back into its original position.
There’s a lens “cap” - more like a cover - that you slide open or close. In the closed position prevents accidental shots taken with the shutter when its in your bag or pocket. You can physically feel the inability to trigger the shutter no matter how hard you press.
All in all, I had tons of fun and a great conversation starter wherever I brought it with me.
